Staff development hub

A new one-stop place for development opportunities at University of the Arts London.

The problem

  • Employees at UAL couldn’t find development opportunities easily.

  • Workshops were searchable and bookable via an external system only.

  • Information was accessible only by searching directly for a specific workshop using specific keywords, with no room for exploration and discovery of unknown opportunities.

  • Information was organised by departments and hard to navigate.

My role

  • Analysed data and feedback gathered via surveys and search reports.

  • Organised and prepared material for a co-designing workshop with a number of stakeholders.

  • Prototyped new pages and process.

  • Organised user testing and assisted our UX Designer in lab.

  • Finalised designs based on testing results and presented new designs to stakeholders.

  • Trained over 30 editors to upload content using the new process.

The result

A new system directly accessible via the organisation's intranet, comprising of a new landing page, new taxonomy organised by subjects, new subject sub-pages, calendar view and events pages.

In the first year after launch, the hub received over 15k views by 2,400 users. Feedback was especially positive for the simplicity of navigation, the possibility to discover new development opportunities and the organisation by subjects.

I received high praise from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for the improvement to the University services and for making different, siloed departments work together.
